Build Together, Ship Faster
Software development has always been a team sport. Designers, developers, product managers — everyone has a stake in the final product. But traditional workflows force these roles into silos. Designers hand off mockups, developers interpret them (often incorrectly), and the back-and-forth drags on for weeks.
At layout.dev, we're breaking down those walls. Today, we're launching real-time collaboration — a set of features designed to bring your entire team into the same workspace, working on the same project, at the same time.
What's New
Live Cursors and Presence
When teammates join your project, you'll see their cursors moving in real time. Know exactly who's working on what, and avoid stepping on each other's toes. A presence indicator shows who's currently active in the project, so you always know when your team is online.
Shared Chat History
Layout's chat-based interface is now fully collaborative. When one team member sends a prompt to the AI — "add a pricing section" or "change the header to dark mode" — everyone on the project sees the conversation unfold in real time. No more screenshots in Slack. No more "which version is the latest?"
Instant Preview Sharing
Generated a preview you're happy with? Share it with your team (or your client) using a single link. Preview links are always up to date, reflecting the latest version of your project. Stakeholders can view the live app without needing a Layout account.
Built for the Way Teams Actually Work
We studied how teams collaborate on front-end projects and designed these features around real patterns:
- Async-Friendly: Not everyone works at the same time. The shared chat history and version timeline let team members catch up on changes made while they were away.
- Role-Based Access: Control who can edit, who can view, and who can deploy. Keep your project secure without slowing anyone down.
- Comment Threads: Leave contextual feedback on specific components or sections. Comments are pinned to the relevant part of the project, so nothing gets lost.
From Idea to Production as a Team
Here's what a typical collaborative workflow looks like with Layout:
- Product Manager describes the feature requirements in the chat. The AI generates an initial layout.
- Designer reviews the output, uploads a reference image, and asks the AI to refine the visual style.
- Developer inspects the generated code, tweaks the logic, and adds custom functionality.
- Everyone previews the final result together and deploys with one click.
No handoffs. No misinterpretation. Just a shared workspace where everyone contributes their expertise.
